leaving our facility.
Left untreated, diabetes can seriously affect a person’s overall health and well-being. Our Diabetes Education Center is dedicated to supporting the health and wellness of our community. We not only treat those that have been diagnosed with diabetes, but also those that wish to prevent it. In our Diabetes Center, our Certified Diabetes Educator, Alice L. Lockman, FNP-BC works both independently and collaboratively with the patient’s primary care physician to educate the patient and assist in the management of their diabetes. Alice provides hands on education and outreach programs, including education on insulin delivery and glucose meters. Diabetes Education and Management is covered by most major insurances, including Medicare and Medicaid.

A Swing Bed (or Rehabilitation Bed) is a Medicare program designed to provide additional inpatient care to those needing extra time to heal or strengthen before returning home. These Swing beds are located on the Acute Care Unit.
The term “swing bed” came from the idea that the patient will “swing” or “transition” from inpatient acute care through the program and return home to the same level of independence prior to entering the hospital. Swing beds allow the physician to “swing” the level of care from “acute” to “skilled rehabilitation.”
Often the swing bed is used for patients who have had surgery such as hip surgery, joint replacement or major surgery. Patients who have received this type of treatment at either our hospital or another facility who need to recover from an episode of illness may have this opportunity to transition from acute care into a swing bed before returning to their communities amongst their family and friends.
At Montgomery General Hospital, our top priority for swing beds is to assist patients in recovering their independence and mobility through intensive therapeutic sessions. In collaboration with a physician, our skilled nurses and therapists evaluate each patient’s capacity and develop a program to meet achievable goals.
